MacBookPro updated 5.10.14-p1 won't launch

I updated  to latest ver. 5.10.14-p1 and followed my normal install procedure, and once installed  dialog pops up to say  if  you want to launch application.  nothing happens.  close out  install  and double click shortcut icon and i get an error message  that  appl.  will not launch.   
any  ideas?

Probably you took the arm64 build and your machine is intel-based (not M1)

how would you know that? that's crazy, ok, yeah i did that. anyway, it works
